From this weekend

The best part of the holidays is definitely spending it with family and good friends! One of my nieces decide to give out stickers, so we all had our own hand sticker. And I decided to make flower cupcakes :-)

Now, back to work... there are a few projects that you will go crazy about, but still on hush hush until completed. Can't wait!

Books I can't live without

So, it's that time of the year again... time to move out! Change is usually good, but with change we have to decide if we bring everything we have been carrying around for years or do we leave it behind? - yes, you can take that however you want.

My big issue with moving around are my books. I think I still have all my books from college, anything that falls on my hands I tend to treasure, and the thought of leaving them in a cold basement for any period of time hurts me deeply.

I am only taking with me the absolute necessary, and they all fit in these 4 boxes:

There is something I can't seem to get rid of, and they are a few Communication Arts magazines I got when I worked at Tree-Free Greetings. They are such nice prints and so inspiring that I can't bare to throw them away, but I can't take them with me! see my dilemma?! Please... if you know of anyone who would be interested in these and they would serve their purpose, send me a message. I would be happy to give them to someone who appreciates them :-)

We will be having a Yard Sale on the 30th, if you would like to stop by, please make sure to message me!

2011 Portfolio Review

Yesterday was the 2011 New Hampshire Creative Club Portfolio Review at Manchester Community College. At first I wasn't even going to go, but I wanted to check out what the new students were up to these days and how they arranged their portfolios. The event brought in a pretty good group of people, ranging from students to professionals with years of experience, to creative directors from established companies, photographers and more! I was very excited to see so many designers and seeing them interact with my portfolio.

Here are a few of my favorites pieces from the night:

This student had a very clever portfolio that you can bring with you pretty much anywhere! I might steal his idea some day :-)

And finally... stationery is still in the interest of graduating students! this is a very clever design from Kelly:

I also spoke with the Dean of the design department and I am seriously considering going back to school for my web design certificate (yuck! where is my press machine?!)... I know, I know, I'm probably the only designer my age who only cares about going back to the root of printing and design rather than following technology, but it is inevitable. I mean... don't you want to see an awesomely designed letterpress stationery website?!

Still Here...

First of all, I must apologize for disappearing on you like that. I think it happens to all of us. Life gets hectic sometimes! big things come in, and changes happen. The good thing is that spring is finally making its appearance in Southern NH... (up north is still snowing, I hear).

Last Wednesday I made my way down to Marblehead, MA to visit my friend Melissa from Yours Truly. We had a great time visiting Scribe and wondering why our work isn't in their store already - oh right, we're just starting! - Anyways, while I was there she also printed her beautiful moving announcements, and they came out absolutely gorgeous!

All these flowers and warm weather has really given me a thing for cooking lately. Well, more than cooking... for baking. Adam has taken over the grill, and let me tell ya, the man can cook! so, as not to step on his toes (or more that his cooking is better than mine) I have decided to practice a little bit for the Easter festivities.

I even made my own frosting! I sent these over with Adam to his work. I figured... if I was going to try out with someone, it better be his co-workers. They seemed to love it!

Note: Adam, please bring the baking sheet back!

Back home

As you know, Adam and I recently went to the Dominican Republic. It was his first time there and I wanted to make sure he got as much out of the country as we could. We went to a resort for three days but spent the rest of the time with family all around the country. Here are a couple of pictures to describe what he saw:

Diego Columbus (Christopher Columbus' Son) House

We also went to a pig farm... there were thousands of pigs, but the cutest ones were the ones that were just a couple of hours long. I spent about 10 minutes trying to make this one feed from the mother, but he wouldn't take :-(

I also did some scouting for inspirations for future lines... these were some paintings they were selling on the streets.

And, if you have ever heard anything about the Dominican Republic is probably about its beautiful beaches and its awful driving! Here, my friends, is the best picture of the entire trip. Please look carefully and then read below:

At the time this picture was taken we were on our way back from the mountains. The custom is that every day trucks are skillfully overloaded with the day's crops to be taken to the city markets (several hours away). These mountain roads are narrow and steep. The yellow truck is going about 10-20 miles an hour... the white truck decided that was too slow, and even though he is twice as loaded, he decided to pass him... in a no-passing zone, with a curve ahead... and another truck approaching about 150 feet away.

How they made it? A miracle... but it didn't end there: once the white truck had miraculously passed the yellow truck, my uncle (who is a ranger in these mountains) decided he had enough time to get through as well. Needless to say, Adam and I were having panic attacks while we had 2 loaded trucks on each side, in a no-passing zone, on a curve.

Lesson learned: NEVER drive in the DR!

I must say that we only saw 1 accident during our vacation, where a truck lost its brakes and ended up hitting a tree. About 4 hours after we got back to the US, were people follow the traffic rules, we saw an accident.

Also, we got stopped at customs because we had gone to a pig farm. They took our shoes to "disinfect" them, but didn't even check our bags!

Spring cards

I jut wanted to let you know that these cards are now available at my Etsy Shop. They can be customized to say "Spring is here!", "Happy Mother's Day", "Hello" and "Just Because!" You can choose from hand written or printed type.

Check them out!
